Oxidation Removal & Sealant

Oxidation occurs when an unprotected gel coat receives exposure to the elements. This leads to a chalky appearance of the boat’s exterior. When it does so, the surface becomes porous and it stains more easily. This process continues until the vessel looks old and neglected. Don’t allow this to happen, as restoring the gel coat remains possible as long as it hasn’t completely worn through.
Boat owners  in Miami quickly learn washing and waxing the boat will slow the oxidation process but won’t halt it. If left untreated for an extended period, aggressive compounds cannot obliterate this oxidation and the owner must take more drastic measures. Sadly, this leads to the need for the boat to be dry-docked for oxidation removal. No boat owner wants this. However, when it is required, several steps must take place.
Wet-sanding works to remove the oxidation and scratches found on vessels in this condition, and the removal crew must wet-sand the finish several times to achieve the desired results.
Upon completion of the wet-sanding, compounding occurs to restore the shine of the finish. Next comes a glaze to polish the gel coat. This removes all scratches and imperfections before the finish is sealed. Choose from a professional marine-grade wax or a gel coat polymer sealant, depending on the level of protection and shine desired.
